ALABAMA WOMEN’S CAUCUS FOR ART - JURIED EXHIBITION
CALL FOR ENTRY - SHELTER
ARTIST CALL:
In January of 2022, the Alabama Women’s Caucus for Art (ALWCA) will be hosting an exhibition in Lowe Mill’s Second Floor gallery space. We are interested in your ideas and art about SHELTER. The meaning of this word has changed and adapted over time. The history of shelters’ linguistic form is known to be an alteration of ‘shield’.
ELIGIBILITY:
This Exhibition is open to ALWCA members and non-members. Please enter your
submissions to SHELTER online through the Call for Entry at www.ALWCA.org.
DEADLINE:
Physical work: November 1, 2021
Video, sound installation, and/or performance based work: November 1, 2021.
ENTRY FEES
$25.00 application fee for members; $35.00 for non-members.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR ALL ARTWORKS
● Limit five (5) original artworks in any media, style or technique that responds to the theme of the exhibit.
● All wall-installed works must hang from standard picture hanging hardware and be ready for hanging.
● Artists must provide all equipment necessary to present video, sound or
artwork requiring electricity, including cords, adapters, DVD player, monitor (minimum 9"), etc.
● No ceiling-installed work will be accepted. This includes installation work.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR SCULPTURE & INSTALLATION
● Larger sculptures, oversized 2D work and installation works must be installed by artist(s) under direction of ALWCA and/or Lowe Mill A&E.
JURYING & IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
● Judging is done by JPEGs online only.
● Limit 5 artworks. Submit 1-2 images per artwork: one full view is required and either one detail or one alternate view.
● Please make sure that the digital images of your artworks are in focus, cropped to feature the artwork, free of watermarks, name imprints/signatures and any time date stamp. Submitted images will be used in the jurying process as well as potential online galleries of the exhibition and in the printed exhibition catalog.
● Artists will be responsible for all shipping, insurance and delivery costs of their work to and from the exhibition.
NOTE: Multi-paneled artworks count as one artwork, as long as they are presented as one artwork.
EXHIBITION CATALOG AND PHOTOGRAPHS
ALWCA will be professionally photographing the installed exhibit for publication in an exhibition catalog. Edited full resolution images will be made available to exhibiting artists.
FILE UPLOAD REQUIREMENTS
File format: JPEG only
File dimensions: 1500 pixels or greater on the shortest dimension
File resolution: 300 ppi/dpi
File size: 5MB maximum
BIO AND ARTIST STATEMENT
Artists must submit a short biography not to exceed 250-words and an artist statement of similar length. You may adjust the length of each, but do not exceed 500 words total.
SALE OF WORK
Lowe Mill will retain a 40% commission on the sale of all exhibition entries available for purchase. Selling prices will be determined by the artist.
EXHIBITION DATES AND VENUE
January - February, 2022 during Lowe Mills’ open hours.
This exhibition will be displayed in the Second Floor North Main Gallery at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment, located at 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville, AL 35805.
This exhibition will be juried by ALWCA’s exhibition committee.
